14 Days Riding the North East Coast
October 3rd 2016
Arrive in Manchester, New Hampshire on October 3rd, 2016. Arrange your travel to the destination Hotel. Get checked into you room, there will be a meet and greet at the location set in your personal itinerary. It will include dinner, then off to have some cold ones and tell some lies getting to know each other.
Day 2 Ride 218 ml/ 350. kl
If riding your own bike, we pack and head by the local Harley store for some swag, or pick up your rental and some swag. From there we jump on the interstate heading up through Laconia into the White Mountains.
From there we jump on the interstate heading up through Laconia into the White Mountains. Crossing down the Kangamangus Highway. Then we do a nice loop up one of my favorite passes around to Mount Washington. Then we take a run up up Mt Washington. From there we ride to the 1902 Spanish Renaissance Hotel for the night.
Day 3 Ride 380 mi/ 611. kl
Today will be a long but beautiful day as we make a run over to Maine. The miles are long but the ride down Route 2 and up Route 11 to Fort Kent is amazing. For those that aren't familiar with Fort Kent, it’s the start of Route 1. From there, according to the sign they installed, it’s 2,446 miles. Wikipedia say only 2,369 miles. Either way, it’s the start. This is the resting point for the night.
Day 4 Ride 254 mi/ 408. Kl
Today will be another marking point of the ride with the arrival into Madawaska, Maine. Not familiar with the town? It’s the farthest Northern Town in the United States. It’s also referred to as one of the 4 corners. Once we reach Quoddy Head Lighthouse, the furthest North Eastern Corner of the United States it’s all down south.
Day 5 Ride 100 mi/ 160 kl
We leave Lubec heading down on Route 1 South a short ride to Bar Harbor. Once there, we run up Cadillac Mountain, then the rest of the day we ride the island exploring as we want.
Day 6 Ride 285 mi/ 458 kl
Today we hop on the interstate for a couple of quick stops. One in Bangor, then down to Portland. All in route to our stop for the night, Boston.
Day 7 Ride 0 mi
Today is a rest and explore the history that Boston has to offer.
Day 8 289 mi/ 465 kl
Today we run inland for a little while into Providence, Rhode Island. Then on our way to Mystic, Connecticut, the home of the famous Mystic Pizza.
Day 9 233 mi/ 374 kl
Today we leave the road for the water, no not swimming. We’ll be hopping on the Cross Sound Ferry in route to Long Island, New York. We run out to Montauk, New York for a loop around the point. Then down Long Beach, in route to Greenwich Village for the night.
Day 10 0 mi
Day off to play in the city (if you want to go up in either the Tower or the Statue of Liberty you have to make arrangements prior to arrival).
Day 11 326 mi/ 524 kl
Today we run down the Hudson River in route through Staten Island. Then a quick stop in Atlantic City, then back to the water and the Cape May Ferry. We run across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in route to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia for the night.
Day 12 0
Day off to explore Washington DC. (if you want to go up in the Washington Monument you must be there in the morning to get a ticket for a place in line)
Day 13 309 mi/ 497 kl
Today we jump into the mountains of Virginia with a run down Skyline Drive. We make a stop at Luray Caverns for a trip down below the earth. We then jump on the Blueridge Parkway for the rest of the day stopping in Roanoke, Virginia.
Day 14 206 mi/ 331 kl
Back to the Blueridge Parkway for the day. We dip down into North Carolina. Then run back up to Bristol, Virginia for our final night on the road together. Tonight at our farewell dinner we’ll reminisced of the days we’ve had together as a family. The highs and lows of the road, talking of rides we’ve taken or will take.
Day 15 0 mi
Today is your day to relax before heading back to the rat race tomorrow. Spend the day at the spa, enjoying the town. You could always extend the bike rental another day getting a ride into the Great Smoky Mountains, or back out on the Blueridge Parkway. You could even take the rest of my East Coast Tour to Key West, Florida. If you extended your rental, I’d be glad to show you anywhere around there for the day.
